If you’ve followed our blog at all, you know that we often advise you about paying regular attention to appropriate fluid levels and clogged filters and frayed belts and hoses among other things. We do this because we want to be your partner in the joint effort to keep your vehicle running well. With this in mind, it’s time for us to remind you about radiator service before the really hot weather arrives.
As you probably know, your car’s radiator keeps the engine at a uniform, workable temperature. While the engine works best when it is warm, it absolutely does not work well when it gets too hot. The radiator circulates coolant through the engine where it is heated and transferred back to the radiator where it is cooled and re-circulated to the engine. As the coolant travels its path doing its job, it will pick up particles of debris which make the coolant less efficient and risk clogging parts of the engine itself.
Sometimes, just a routine maintenance appointment for a flush is all your vehicle needs. This service will send several gallons of new, fresh coolant through the whole system to wash out old, dirty coolant and any residue build-up that may be in there.
Annual maintenance accomplishes several things:
- Gets rid of any rust or scale deposits that have built up and could damage the radiator
- Removes corrosive particles that the old, weak radiator coolant no longer controls
- Lubricates the water pump which extends its life
- Offers an opportunity to inspect the whole radiator system for leaks and wear
Regular Maintenance Extends the Life of Your Car
Routine maintenance keeps all the parts and systems working smoothly and gives your professional auto mechanics a chance to catch potential problems before they are serious – and expensive.
Air Filters – We will inspect and replace the cabin air filter and the engine air filter as needed
Battery – We will examine the battery mounting and clean all connections
Belts and Hoses – We will test all mechanical operations as well as belts and hoses themselves for cracks and frays
Brakes – We will service the whole system from pads and shoes to rotors and drums
Lights – We will check all bulbs and fuses to be sure they are all working right
Oil – We will drain and replace old oil and oil filters
Steering – We will look at wheels, shocks, struts and fluid levels
Tires – We will rotate tires, examine them for wear, and check the pressure
Windshields – We will look for cracks and chips in the glass, adjust washer fluid levels, and replace wiper blades as needed
And, this is just a partial list of all the parts and systems we can service for you, including that radiator, too, to get it ready for summer.
At Xpress Lube, you will find a team of trained, experienced professionals just waiting to assist with radiator service and all your vehicle’s maintenance needs.
