Changing your oil regularly is one of the best ways to extend the life of your vehicle. Through preventative maintenance, you can avoid costly breakdowns. However, oil changes are not all created equally. Low-quality products and service from inexperienced workers could put your vehicle at risk. Here are three tips you can use to ensure your scheduled oil change services will keep your vehicle running smoothly.
1) Work with Licensed Mechanics
Changing a car’s oil is relatively straightforward. However, this doesn’t mean you should hire just anyone to do it. When you work with licensed professionals, they will ensure you are using the proper oil for your car. Additionally, they will explain your options, such as conventional engine oil, synthetic oil, and synthetic blends. If you aren’t sure which oil to choose, they can make recommendations based on your driving habits and vehicle.
Also, licensed mechanics are able to spot other problems under the hood of your car. After changing your oil, our team can also do other vehicle preventative maintenance such as:
- Checking your other fluid levels
- Changing burned-out lights such as blinkers and headlights
- Adding tire air (including nitrogen if desired)
- Fixing problems indicated by your check engine light
- Replacing your brake pads
- Regular tire rotation
If you don’t work with a licensed mechanic, you may receive poor advice and they may not catch other problems. Always work with an experienced team like the ASE-certified mechanics at Kernersville Auto Center. This kind of preventative maintenance can add years to the life of your car. Keep in mind that your vehicle oil doesn’t have to be low to need a clean oil change. You can use the dipstick to check oil levels, and if your oil is low, we can add more for you. However, all oil gets dirty over time. So, we recommend changing your oil on the schedule listed in your owner’s manual.
2) Choose a Shop with High-Quality Lubrication Products
Next, keep in mind that any oil change is only as good aa the products they use. We use Havoline products exclusively, since they specialize in high-quality engine lubrication. If we wouldn’t use it in our own cars, we won’t use it in yours! The exact oil we use will depend on what your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends.
In addition, we will also change out the filter when we change your oil. If your filter is dirty, new engine oil won’t be as beneficial in your car. Again, we use high-quality products that are recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer.
