If you live in North Carolina, there are certain state inspections NC requires you to have for your vehicle. This is to ensure that your car is safe to drive. General State Inspections NC Requirements
In North Carolina, your vehicle must pass inspection every year. There are two parts of this inspection: the safety inspection and the emissions inspection. During the process, our licensed mechanics will qualify your car so you can safely (and legally) continue to drive an inspected vehicle.
The safety inspection covers a car’s headlights and accessory lights, brakes, signals, steering, windshield wipers, and windows. All vehicles less than 35 years old must pass this inspection. The cost is just $13.50 for the safety inspection unless you have tinted windows. In this case, the tinted window check is an additional $10. The tint inspection checks for the darkness to ensure it meets the inspected requirements set by the state.
Keep in mind that the safety inspection is not the same as the emissions inspection. The state requires an emissions inspection in 22 North Carolina counties, including Forsyth where Kernersville is located. Additionally, emissions inspections are mandatory in the neighboring counties of Guilford, Davidson, and Rockingham. Emissions tests cost $30, which is a fee set by the state.

We can also help if your check engine is on and you aren’t sure what the problem might be. In some cases, a check engine light does not mean you can’t pass inspection. It depends on the problem. However, in most cases, the check engine light does mean that something is wrong with your car. If you don’t take care of it, you are putting your safety at risk. Beware of any mechanic offering to turn the light off so you can get that inspected sticker.
Keep in mind that if your vehicle does fail inspection due to a check engine light problem, you have options. After you fix your car, the retest for inspection is free if you return to the original inspection station within 60 days.
