Common Nissan Problems
All vehicle makes and models come with their own common problems. Nissan generally makes relatively reliable vehicles. However, there are a few problems that we commonly see with Nissans:
- Faulty transmissions
- Fluid leaks (especially oil and brake fluid)
- Defective airbags
- Issues with the backup camera
- Faulty Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems
- Inaccurate or faulty fuel sensor
- Hood latches not working properly
- Engine stalling (especially with the Nissan Altima)
- Repair needed for the AC and heat (especially with the Nissan Pathfinder)
- Ignition coil failure (especially with the Nissan Maxima)
Don’t let this long list scare you! Many Nissan vehicles do not have any issues at all as long as they are properly maintained. If you do find yourself in need of a Nissan mechanic, one of our technicians would be happy to help you. We’ll diagnose the problem and explain your best options for vehicle repair in a way that is easy to understand.
Nissan Maintenance to Avoid Repair Bills
Preventative maintenance is the easiest way to avoid repair bills in the future. Nissan maintenance isn’t difficult for most models. You simply need to schedule time to get the work done. We get it; your life is busy. That’s why we have convenient online scheduling. We give every appointment our careful attention to get you in and out quickly without sacrificing quality.
Here’s the general maintenance you need for your Nissan to prevent major issues, though keep in mind that a mechanic can give you more specific parameters for your vehicle:
- Oil change (2-3 times per year for most drivers)
- Tire rotation (2-3 times per year for most drivers)
- Annual state safety inspection
- Cabin filter replacement (around every 15,000 miles)
- Engine air filter replacement (around every 30,000 miles)
- Brake fluid flush (around every 30,000 miles)
- Spark plug replacement (around every 60,000 miles or sooner if needed based on inspection)
- Brake pad replacement (every 5-7 years for most drivers or sooner based on your annual inspection)
We also recommend getting an engine inspection and tune-up every year when you’re here for an oil change or state safely inspection anyway. We always check and top off your fluids if needed, but a tune-up will ensure your vehicle is running efficiently and will catch any other major problems before it’s too late.
When to Bring in a Nissan for Repair: Signs You Need a Mechanic
Many vehicle owners have a bad habit of ignoring smaller problems until they are huge problems. We recommend you schedule Nissan repairs before you get to that point. If anything about your vehicle seems “off,” it’s time to come in for a once-over by one of our technicians. Here are a few signs you could need repair work soon:
- Weird sensations as you drive, such as rattling, pulling to one side, or a feeling like the engine is running “rough”
- Unusual smells, especially a hot or burning smell
- Smoke or steam coming from under your hood of from your tailpipe
- Your engine is stalling or doesn’t want to start
- Knocking sounds coming from your engine
- Brakes that feel spongy or need a lot of pressure to stop
- Backfiring
- You aren’t able to accelerate as quickly as you should
Of course, you should also bring your vehicle to our shop if any dashboard light comes on. This is a clear indication that something is going on and you may need car repair to prevent an even bigger problem.

What are your shop hours?

Can I drive me vehicle there or do I need to tow it?

Do I need an appointment?
You don’t necessarily need an appointment, but we can’t guarantee fast service if you show up without advanced notice. Our schedule is sometimes very full. We take walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. You can always give us a call to see our availability for the day before driving to our shop or having your car towed here.
Can you do my repair work?
It depends! While we do work on most makes and models, there are a few high-performance vehicles that we don’t have the ability to repair at our shop. In some cases, we also cannot get the parts needed for certain repairs, since only the dealerships have access to order them. 99% of the time, we are able to do your vehicle repair work.
